We suffer from various minor ailments, and it is not possible to visit a doctor now and then. Yoga has tried and tested methods to prevent and cure such disorders without side effects. Regarding causative factors, yoga believes there are three major factors- the wrong type of food, lack of exercise and stress. Let us discuss some of them.
Acidity
It is a common gastronomical problem among city dwellers and the most common lifestyle disorder.
Symptoms: Burning sensation in the abdomen, nausea, vomiting and sour burps, gas, flatulence, chest pain and heartburn.
Causes: Eating fried, roasted, spicy and fast food. Larger portion size. Excessive use of salt and sugar. Excess intake of tea, coffee, and liquor. Smoking. Lack of exercise and sedentary lifestyle. Constipation. Stress.
Yogic Ways of Treating Acidity
1. Food- A sattvic diet; no spicy, greasy or fast food. Eat at regular intervals with total concentration. Always chew your food properly and sit in Vajrasana after meals.
2. Walk in the fresh air.
3. Asanas: Halasana, Vajrasana, Paschimottan, Bhujangasana, Dhanurasana, Salabhasana- three repetitions of each.
5. Pranayama: Anulom vilom, Shitali 11 rounds or 5 to 7 minutes.
Home Remedies
1. Have coconut water/ lemon and honey water/ fruit juice/ vegetable juice (anyone) daily.
2. Take 1-2 cardamom and one clove after meals.
3. Take fresh amla juice. Alternatively, have amla powder with turmeric in honey.
4. Pass urine after meals.
5. Drink one glass of lukewarm water before meals.
6. Apply mustard oil on the soles of your feet.
7. Boil fennel seeds in water, cool it down and drink.
8. Take cucumber raita with lunch.
Use one or two measures that suit your body. Please do not use all of them simultaneously.
